A NEW HOME FOR THE BLACK ROCK POULTRY FROM MUIRFIELD HATCHERY TO CROSSLEE POULTRY FARM

As Mark Twain said, “Rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated”!

We are now in the happy position to say the same of the Black Rock hens.  Six months ago, we were feeling that all was lost and the Black Rocks would disappear from Britain, and all the hard work and effort put in by my father Peter Siddons over the last 40 years would be for nothing.

Fortunately, at the lowest point, salvation came along in the shape of Eddie Lovett and the business was set to change hands.

So after over 50 years hard work our parents Margaret & Peter Siddons have finally decided to retire. It has not been an easy decision and one fraught with high emotions but hopefully once the dust has settled (literally, when you are catching hens!) we will see the business go from strength to strength.

With all the Muirfield hatchery breeding stock, chicks, incubators, feeders, drinkers, etc etc etc now at Crosslee Poultry  Farm, Bridge of Weir, the future of the Black Rock strain looks good, in the safe, if slightly anxious, hands of Eddie Lovett and his family.

It is Eddie’s intention to continue with the work that Peter Siddons has done over the past 40 years with the BLACK ROCK POULTRY.  So with Peter's knowledge and his daughters’, Kate and Gillian, help and support it will be possible to take the BLACK ROCK chicks, pullets and hens, on to even greater success and continue with Peters’ original ideas for the IDEAL FREE RANGE LAYER, THE BLACK ROCK BIRD.

As with Muirfield Hatchery, Crosslee Poultry Farm will be the SOLE PRODUCER of  all  the BLACK ROCK HENS.
